History of the hull is unknown. It was probably used as a small tug boat on the Dutch lakes to tow sailing boats to and from the lake and was fitted with a petrol engine. We bought the hull when it was fitted with a Peugeot diesel engine. It was in a very poor condition and we replaced about 1/3 of the hull plates. All plates were riveted back into place. The deck is new and welded. All woodwork is made from teak.

The boiler is original from a Merryweather Valiant steam Fire Engine. The complete steam plant was bought in the 1990’s from John Hallam of Whitley Bay and was displayed at rallies on many occasions in the Netherlands, Germany and Great Britain. Only the boiler is fitted in the boat, not the fire pump. It takes about one hour to remove the boiler from the boat and re-fit the pump. In 2006 the boiler was totally renewed in our own workshop. The only original part used was the top of the outer shell. Every two years we take the boiler apart for Lloyds inspection.

In 2009 the Phoenix was assembled from scratch. In 2010 we made our maiden voyage and since then every summer, trips are made around the lakes in the western part of Holland near Leiden. In 2014 we made a round trip to Utrecht and steamed for eight consecutive days without any problems, a distance of 200 km. Every winter we make technical improvements: see our website: www.stoomboot-phoenix.nl for all our activities.
